SAINT PETER'S PIETÁ

SAINT PETER'S PIETA

POSTHUMOUS LIMITED EDITION

Medium: Marble

Dimensions: H: 174 cm x W at Base: 195 cm x D: 87 cm (approximate size)

Five hundred years ago, Michelangelo unveiled what would come to be regarded as one of the world’s great masterpieces of inspired art and perhaps the most beautiful sculpture ever created. Now, under an exclusive license from the Vatican Observatory Foundation, this masterpiece has been recreated in cast marble from an authorized mold derived from the original. This posthumous Pietà is a 1:1 casting that is faithful in every detail to Michelangelo’s original.

Of all his sculptures the Pietà was the only one Michelangelo ever signed. In the Pietà all of Michelangelo’s attention was focused on evoking the ideal of spiritual beauty so important in the time of the Italian Renaissance. It is a testament to his abiding love of God, the source of his inspiration, that he was able to capture the compassion and serenity in Mary’s face with so much grace that half a millennium later, the vision of it continues to inspire us. One of the greatest sculptures ever created, it stands as an icon for the Christian faith, bringing inspiration to the millions who visit St. Peter’s Basilica every year.

Stewart Family Partners' Private Bronze Collection

SPECIAL COLLECTOR LOCATIONS ONLY

NOTEStewart Family Partners purchased the entire remaining numbered series of the Michelangelo collection, and although they intend to continue to place marble masterpieces in venues accessible to the public for their edification, there are a very limited number of bronze statues in their private collection that they are willing to offer to a few accredited Michelangelo art lovers.

Even though there were 3 H/Cs, 12 F/Ps and 100 Limited Editions, over 90% have not been produced and more than likely will never be produced.  Therefore, although there are no guarantees, the ownership of these rare, authorized masterpieces has the potential to become more valuable, especially if no more are ever cast.

In July 1501 Michelangelo Buonarroti was commissioned by the Opera del Duomo to create a statue depicting David and Goliath, with the obligation to use a large block of marble abandoned at the Bottega della Cattedrale and which had already been roughed by the sculptor Agostino di Duccio about 40 years earlier, in an attempt to sculpt the same subject.

The original size bronze posthumous first edition original of Michelangelo’s, “David” sculpture is kept at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence.
